Our story
One of the oldest tavernas of Agios Georgios, from the days the bay could only be reached by sea.
Captain Pipinos is one of the oldest tavernas in Agios Georgios, from the time when this little bay at the end of Antiparos could only be reached by sea. Fishermen moored below the terrace, families arrived by caique, and the smell of grilled fish drifted across water that was, and still is, impossibly clear.
The road arrived eventually. The soul of the place never changed.
Today, the same family welcomes you with the same values. The captain's boats still bring in the day's catch. Octopus still dries in the morning sun along the railings above the sea, a living picture of the old Aegean that guests now travel from around the world to find. And every plate that leaves our kitchen still carries the pride of a family name.
Our philosophy
We believe quality cannot be improvised. It is caught at dawn, selected by hand, and cooked at the moment you order. Never before. It is olive oil and lemon rather than disguise; charcoal and sea salt rather than shortcuts. It is knowing exactly where every fish comes from, because we brought it in ourselves.
We believe tradition is not nostalgia. It is a standard. The recipes of our grandparents, the drying of the fish, the unhurried rhythm of the taverna table: we keep them because they are simply the best way.
And we believe hospitality, filoxenia, is a duty of honour. From the first kalimera to the last farewell at the dock, you are not a customer here. You are our guest.
“The sea gives us everything. Our job is simply not to spoil it.”
